	These geiger counters were made in the 1960's by Victoreen Company for FEMA. They are new and pass the circuit test when the battery is turned on. They detect up to 500 R/h. The levels of radiation from fallout from nuclear weapons can be much higher than those encountered in peacetime conditions. The radiation instruments developed for use by operators of nuclear reactors, by radiation therapists in hospitals, or by a crewman of nuclear submarimes and ships are generally not suitable for the needs of people caught in the radioactive fallout of a nuclear war. These commercial instruments for peacetime purposes usually do not have the higher ranges which may be needed for wartime use. Item comes with owners manual [new] and carryingcase with strap. Item has 4 levels for checking for different strengths of radiation. Turn the ranges switch clockwise to the X100, X10, X1 or X0.1 for lower amounts. Item is sold as is. Thanks for looking.
