Moldavite is a green/olive earthen melt glass, created by a massive Meteorite Impact at the Noerdlinger Ries in Bavaria, Germany, about 14.8 million years ago. (The scientific community assumes today that just before impact with the Earth surface the air cushion between the meteor and the Earth is raised to such an extreme pressure and temperature, melting the sand and rock and throwing it high into the atmosphere.) This molten globules then rained down after their space flight in the Moldau River Valley, north of Prague in the Czech Republic. Hence the name 'Moldavite'. They were discovered at the end of the 18th century..
